The Lost Meaning (Gwache Arth) written in 1993 is an odyssey in search of the lost meaning of life during the turbulent period of nineteen eighties in the Punjab. The protagonist in this novel is a lonely figure caught unawares in the meshes of social prejudices and political man oeuvres. In his contemplative moods and moments, he raises the futility of building walls of preconceived notions and half-baked truths. Before long he comes to the conclusion that the two communities residing in the Punjab are like Juno's swans - 'still coupled and inseparable'.
