Summary Of The Book In Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, the second book of the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid franchise, the protagonist, Greg Heffley, returns after a long summer to face a new year in school. He is thankful that the humiliating summer is behind him and does all that he can to forget those three long months, and one incident in particular. As it turns out, secrets are hard to keep, especially when there’s a diary floating around. And unfortunately for Greg, his older brother Rodrick knows all about the embarrassing thing that happened to Greg. Armed with such a valuable secret, Rodrick now holds the upper hand and is determined to play it to his advantage. Given the evil mind he has, he threatens to tell everyone, making Greg squirm with fear. Amidst all this, Greg continues to hang out with Rowley, and the two keep getting into trouble for some mischief or the other. And all the time, Rodrick’s threat to spill the beans hangs like a sword over his head. Greg’s ‘coolness’ now rests in the hands of Rodrick. The year might well turn out to be a long one for Greg, who is worried about keeping his reputation intact. This book was released in February 2008. The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series was initially published online in daily installments on Funbrain, a website. It became an instant hit and was adapted for print by popular demand. It was subsequently adapted for the feature film format too. The second movie, which is based on this book, was released on March 25, 2011. The main character, Greg Heffley, is played by Zach Gordon. As of 2012, the series has about 58 million copies in print worldwide. It has lent its name to several spin-off products including games, posters, and toys. The simple drawings and handwritten notes that describe Greg’s adventures add a fun element to the books.
